Round and Round the Garden

Round and Round the Garden

Description:

This age-old rhyme is a wonderful way to connect with your baby. Hold baby’s hand in the palm of your hand, tracing circles in their palm while saying the rhyme out loud. At the end, tickle under their arms, or necks. Toddlers love this rhyme too, and often ask for a turn to say it and do the actions.

Round and Round the Garden:

Round and round the garden (trace circles around your baby’s palm)

Like a teddy bear (continue tracing circles)

One step, two steps (walk your fingers up baby’s arm)

Tickly under there! (gently tickle your baby under her arm, or in her neck)

Promote learning by:

Using both baby’s hands for this rhyme. Ask if they want more, then wait for acknowledgement before continuing. At this age, your baby may respond to your question with only a smile or other facial expression, a nod, or an attempt at a word. Listening and responding to rhymes is great for developing early literacy skills.
