Princess Catherine visits Reggio Emilia
14 May 2026On a recent visit to Italy, Princess Catherine included a tour of Reggio Emilia, the city that gave rise to the Reggio Emilia approach to education.
At Nido Early School, the Reggio Emilia philosophy has long been a source of inspiration, continually shaping how we view children, childhood and learning. Princess Catherine’s visit highlights what we value deeply at Nido – that children are capable, competent and deserving of an education which welcomes their ideas, questions and theories.
We see these values come to life every day within our early schools. They are reflected in the meaningful relationships developed between educators and children, in our incredible learning environments which provoke curiosity, in documentation which makes children’s thinking and learning visible, and in the partnerships that we develop with our families and local community.
Globally, there has been an increased focus and appreciation of the early years. Princess Catherine’s visit reminds us of the impact that high-quality early childhood education and care can have on children, sustained long after they leave our early schools.
As this global recognition continues to grow, moments like this not only affirm the value of the Reggio Emilia approach in our schools but also inspire us to continue creating spaces where children can thrive every day.
