Celebrating Diwali at Nido Early School: Embracing Culture, Connection, and Creativity

At Nido, we believe in embracing the beauty of diversity and promoting a deep sense of cultural appreciation among children. This Diwali, the festival of lights, our Nido Early Schools celebrated in a vibrant, interactive, and inclusive way, bringing families, educators, and children together to honour Indian culture and the significance of Diwali.

Over the course of the week, our schools engaged in a variety of activities that immersed children in the sights, sounds, and flavours of this cherished celebration.

The week was filled with hands-on activities that inspired joy and connection. One of the central traditions our schools embraced was creating rangolis, the intricate and colourful patterns made from coloured powders, rice, or flowers that are often displayed in homes and public spaces during Diwali to invite positive energy.

Guided by their educators, children explored their creativity by designing their own rangolis. This activity not only engaged their fine motor skills but also introduced them to traditional Indian art, helping them appreciate the cultural expressions within the Diwali celebration.

Many children and educators also embraced the opportunity to dress in traditional Indian clothing. Vibrant saris, kurtas, and lehengas brightened up our schools, adding a rich, visual element to the festivities.

Wearing these traditional clothes helped children understand the importance of heritage and identity, and many families contributed by sharing cultural garments from home, enriching the experience for everyone involved. Seeing each other dressed in these beautiful outfits sparked curiosity, leading to conversations about different cultural attire and the ways people celebrate special occasions around the world.

Music and dance added to the celebratory atmosphere, with children learning simple dance steps and movements commonly performed during Diwali celebrations. This allowed them to express themselves rhythmically and joyfully, experiencing the spirit of togetherness that is central to Diwali.

Celebrating Diwali at Nido was a meaningful experience that allowed our children to explore a rich cultural tradition, broaden their perspectives, and celebrate the diversity that makes our community so special.
