Every Day Matters at Nido Somerton Park
Our philosophy has been developed in partnership with families, children and educators.
Care, present, inclusive, welcoming, teamwork, supportive, trustworthy, consistent, communication and collaborative.
We provide environments that promote inclusion, exploration and open-ended experiences. We believe children are capable and competent learners who can engage and explore using a myriad of materials in a variety of ways.
We use the environment as the third teacher supporting children to foster a sense of ownership and respect in their space.
Child-led Learning
- Engaging learning programs are child-led, inspired by the Reggio-Emilia philosophy and facilitated by a dedicated Curriculum Leader.
- Our teams are made up of passionate, sector leading degree qualified teachers, with all Educators diploma-qualified or holding a Cert III.
- Our unique curriculum is co-designed with families, experts and educators and builds upon the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) to balance literacy, numeracy, creativity, health and confidence.
- For younger children, experiences are designed to focus on sensory exploration, building secure relationships, and supporting early communication and motor development. Older children engage in more complex problem-solving, group activities, creative projects and opportunities for independence.
- Our special programs, such as music, sustainability and cultural learning, are adapted for each age group. Younger children participate through simple exposure and guided experiences, while older children take on more active roles such aas helping with garden care, contributing ideas, or engaging in discussions about culture and the environment.
- Our connection to the local community includes regular excursions to the nearby park to support outdoor learning and exploration and visits from the local library to deliver monthly literacy-based sessions.
Exploring our local community
We provide a wide range of regular excursions, collaborations, and community-based experiences for children.
Each month, we visit a local aged-care centre where children engage in shared activities with the residents. We also take regular excursions to the nearby park to support outdoor learning and exploration.
The local library visits our centre monthly to deliver literacy-based sessions.
Throughout the year, we collaborate with Glenelg Primary School and were thrilled to have their school choir visit to perform for the children.
We welcome visits from community safety services, including the police, ambulance, and fire service, who speak with the children and help them learn about safety and emergency roles.
Twice a year, dental professionals visit our centre to promote oral health and conduct educational sessions with the children.
Safety Every Day
At Nido, safety is part of every day. We follow national child-safe standards with strong leadership, rigorous recruitment, and ongoing training for everyone in our early schools. Our spaces are designed for clear supervision, and our policies are regularly reviewed to maintain the highest standards. Nothing matters more than creating safe and secure environments where children feel confident, and families place their full trust in our care.
Our Community
Our strong community connections are at the heart of our service. We provide regular meaningful excursions, and our team is committed to best-practice.
We build a warm, welcoming culture, prioritise relationships with families, and offer rich learning experiences—from aged-care visits and library sessions to safety services and dental visits—that support children’s wellbeing and sense of belonging.
