Nature Puzzles

Description:

Give your child the opportunity to work on spatial awareness with these nature puzzles. Children will love manipulating the pieces of nature to make them fit inside the shape. Exploring puzzles helps build spatial awareness skills; a child is required to determine which piece goes where and then manipulate the piece to get into the shape. You can use a marker to draw a range of different shapes or images and have your child challenge themselves to complete the puzzle using different natural materials.

Promote learning by:

  • Go on a scavenger hunt in your backyard or local community to find the natural materials you are going to use.
  • Consider signing up to a nature exchange program on Facebook. Families all over Australia exchange nature treasures they collect with their children.
  • Encourage your child to draw their own shapes or pictures to use as puzzles.
  • Practice using vocabulary words such as: flip, move, turn, rotate, under, below, above, and in between.
  • When your child is finished with this experience consider using the natural materials to create a nature collage or read the ‘leaf man’ story and create a leaf man inspire self-portrait.
