Space Week at Nido Early School Ormond
12 Oct 2026Children celebrated Space Week with a space disco party, exploring the wonders of the solar system while building confidence, creativity, connection and a sense of belonging.
At Nido Early School Ormond, children’s ideas, interests and imaginations help shape their learning. We love creating opportunities for children to share their ideas, explore their curiosities and bring their imaginations to life.
During Space Week, our learning environment was transformed into an exciting space-inspired world, inviting children to discover the wonders of the universe. Through conversations and exploration, children were introduced to the solar system, sparking curiosity about the Sun, Moon, planets and stars. These experiences encouraged children to ask questions, share their ideas and begin developing an understanding of the world beyond Earth.

As Friday approached, educators asked the children how they would like to celebrate the end of Space Week. Gathered in our beautifully decorated space area, the children shared their ideas, and one favourite quickly emerged: a space disco party!
With the children leading the way, Friday became a day filled with music, movement and out-of-this-world fun. The children danced to their favourite music, showed off their dance moves and celebrated together. Some enthusiastically joined in, while others watched their friends before finding their own moment to shine.

More importantly, the experience highlighted the value of listening to children and recognising them as active participants in their learning. By following their interests, educators supported children to build confidence, express their creativity and strengthen their sense of belonging, while nurturing curiosity about space and the solar system.
Space Week was a wonderful reminder that meaningful learning can begin with a simple question and a big imagination. By following the children’s interests, we created a celebration filled with discovery, connection and fun, proving that when children help lead the way, even an ordinary Friday can become an extraordinary adventure.
