At Nido, we provide early education and care for children from six weeks to school age. “Nido” is the Italian word for “nest”, a place of safety, warmth and belonging. Our use of Italian words reflects our Reggio Emilia-inspired educational philosophy.

At Nido, our practice is underpinned by six core beliefs:

Every Day Matters at Nido Early School

Why do we call Nido an early school?

At six weeks old, a child is already learning about trust, communication, movement and the world around them. At Nido, education begins with these earliest experiences and continues through to school age.

We call ourselves an Early School because we are dedicated to early learning as a profession and practice. Guided by research and evidence-based approaches, we support each child’s development, curiosity and confidence from infancy through to school age, helping to build strong foundations for lifelong learning and a successful transition to school.

Nido’s Infant and Toddler Curriculum and Kindergarten Curriculum provide an evidence-based learning program for every stage. Both are organised across seven learning branches, giving Educators a clear framework for the skills and understanding children can develop.

Educators notice what holds a baby’s attention, what a toddler repeats and what a kindergarten child wants to understand. They use their professional knowledge to introduce new language, ideas, materials and experiences, while allowing children’s questions and interests to take the learning further.

Where did Nido start?

Nido’s journey began in Western Australia in 2014 with just two Early Schools. Today, we are proud to be a community of more than 80 early schools across Australia, united by a shared commitment to providing exceptional early education and care.

Our growth has always been guided by a goal to provide every child access to high-quality early education, regardless of where they live or their family’s circumstances. We actively seek opportunities to establish services in communities where quality early learning options are limited, helping more children access the benefits of exceptional education and care.

Every Nido Early School is thoughtfully designed, developed and operated by us, with each environment created to inspire children’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. Our programs and practices continue to evolve through research in child development and the valuable insights shared by children, families, educators and regulatory bodies.

With more than 90% of brain development occurring in the first five years, we recognise the important role early education plays in laying the foundations for a child’s future. This commitment to quality is reflected in our National Quality Framework ratings, with 96% of our services achieving a Meeting or Exceeding rating.
